It is with sadness that we report that Maurice Freeman one of the founders of the GMDN Agency has recently passed away.
Maurice Freeman spent over 50 years in the Medical Devices industry, firstly with East Healthcare Limited and then working for the European Commission and CEN.
In 1976 he helped set up a trade association to support best practice in the Medical Devices industry with a specific interest in Anaesthesia. The British Anaesthetic and Respiratory Manufacturers Association (BAREMA). From the 1990s he helped establish the Global Medical Device Nomenclature and in 2002 became the first Chairman of the GMDN Maintenance Agency.
He was recognised by The Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland and awarded ‘The Pask Certificate of Honour’ in recognition for his support to anaesthesia and resuscitation and The British Standards Institution awarded him the ‘Distinguished Service Certificate’ in appreciation of long and valued contribution to the development of British, European and International Standards.
