GMDN Agency Launches New Capabilities to Enhance User Experience
22 November 2024
The Global Medical Device Nomenclature (GMDN) Agency has announced the launch of several new capabilities designed to improve user experience and functionality on GMDN members accounts. These enhancements come in response to valuable feedback from stakeholders and aim to streamline the search and categorisation processes for the medical device nomenclature.
One of the key updates is the introduction of an Advanced Search function, which replaces the previous Explorer page. This new feature retains the ability to search GMDN Categories for GMDN Terms while adding new filter options. Users can now filter by IVD/GMD, include obsolete GMDN Terms in their searches, and choose to show or hide GMDN Term Details. Additionally, the Advanced Search allows for up to 1,000 GMDN Terms to be displayed per page, significantly increasing the efficiency of the search process.
Another notable innovation is the Custom Categories function, available to Regulator, Healthcare Provider, and Conformity Assessment Body GMDN members. This function enables organisations to create their own Custom Categories, populated with GMDN Terms of their choosing. Organisations can also choose to share Custom Categories with other Regulators and Healthcare Providers, promoting global harmonisation. This feature is expected to be particularly beneficial for Regulators, who can now tailor categories to better meet their specific needs.
The GMDN Agency has also introduced the My Categories function, which allows users to add full GMDN Categories to their individual accounts. This ensures that only the GMDN Categories relevant to their organisation are easily accessible, enhancing user convenience and efficiency.
Additionally, for GMDN members with paid accounts and multiple users, including medical device manufacturers, consultancies, and commercial organisations, there is now the capability for the account users on their specific organisation accounts to see which other account users have downloaded which GMDN Term, further improving their account management.
Deniz Bruce, CEO of the GMDN Agency, commented on the new capabilities: “We are committed to continuously improving our services based on user feedback. These new functions are designed to provide our members with more flexibility and control over their GMDN data, ultimately supporting better global harmonisation and efficiency in medical device nomenclature.”
