Jo Goulding joins GMDN Agency Board of Trustees

The Global Medical Device Nomenclature (GMDN) Agency has welcomed Jo Goulding as the newest member of the Agency’s Board of Trustees.

Jo Goulding is Head of Pharmacy and GS1 Strategy at NHS England and has worked at NHS England (and its forerunners) since 2001.  

Jo has over 25 years of experience in the medical and healthcare industry and has worked in a variety of roles and functions across standards implementation and terminology.

Jo Goulding, Board Member at the GMDN Agency, said: “I’m excited to meet with the GMDN Agency Board of Trustees and Team and to be able to support the GMDN Agency in furthering its goal of a globally harmonized medical devices nomenclature.

“My experience in Pharmacy Health Informatics and working with and developing national and international Standards will, I hope, prove useful to all at the GMDN Agency.”

She will bring a wealth of experience to the role and will play an important part in shaping the strategy for the GMDN Agency. Our mission is to be the global leader in naming, describing and unambiguously identifying medical devices and provide health authorities and regulators, healthcare providers, manufacturers and others with a system that allows an exchange of medical device information and supports patient safety.”

About Jo Goulding

Jo Goulding is currently Head of Pharmacy and GS1 Strategy at NHS England and has worked at NHS England (and its forerunners) since 2001.

Jo specialises in Pharmacy Health Informatics and as a terminologist was involved in the initial development of the NHS dictionary of medicines and devices (dm+d),
defined the initial specification and editorial principles for the SNOMED CT UK Drug Extension and took the department to ISO9001 accreditation. In her current role she works closely with the Digital Medicines Programme in support of the key objective – medicines interoperability across the NHS utilising core fundamental Standards.

As a Trustee of the GMDN Agency, she brings over 25 years of experience in the medical and healthcare industry and has worked in a variety of roles and functions across standards implementation and terminology.

Jo previously worked as Strategic Development Lead at the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) on Scan4Safety. Launched by DHSC in 2016, this innovation aims to enhance patient safety, improve operational efficiency, and reduce costs within NHS hospitals through the use of GS1 (barcode) Standards. Jo is a member of the GS1 UK Healthcare User Group which brings together sector experts responsible for GS1 standards adoption within their respective organisations.
